What is Mistgate?
Mistgate is a new campaign setting and supplement written by Sean W. Quinn. It is compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition.
The world of Mistgate is one of robust scientific and technological discvoery throughout the Guild Marches fueled by a renaissance of magic. The guilds explore the Mists beyond the veil of reality, defend the people from monsters of darkness, and delve into the depths of ruins to uncover the lost history of the world.
In today's Grand Codex, we explore some of the character options in Mistgate. This playtest document presents the droga and kobold character options along with Mistgate's Lineage and Cultural Heritage system. These character options will appear in the upcoming Mistgate Campaign Setting book, when it is released.
The droga and kobolds, along with true dragons, are part of the larger group of draconic people known as the agar in Mistgate. Their history is ancient and ruins from bygone eras are still being discovered.
Mistgate's Lineage and Cultural Heritage system takes a fresh look at the traditional approach to character creation in 5th Edition, while maintaining continuity with the idea of bundling prescribed traits. Rather than approaching character creation using the concepts of race and subraces, as has been the tradition for decades in Dungeons & Dragons, Mistgate divides the character options between a character's nature (lineage) and nurture (cultural heritage).

This Is Playtest Content The material in this article is presented for playtesting the Mistgate campaign setting, and like the material presented in Grand Codex articles is designed to spark your imagination. These game mechanics are in draft form, usable in your games but not finalized. Some mechanics may be more or less refined than others, and not all mechanics will appear in the Mistgate game materials.
