The Technology Behind Lorecall

This series of articles will track the decisions we make, for better or for worse, in our pursuit to produce Lorecall and establish it as a community for role-players.

We're interested in being as transparent as possible with respect to our technology decisions and our platform. The idea being that by sharing our experiences we can help other engineers and projects in their journey from the concept phase to product. We may not have much new to add to the conversation, but on the off chance that one of these posts help at least one person, then hey, they've been useful.

The first series of posts will look at the overall choices of technology, such as the Symfony Framework, Bootstrap, etc. that we've decided on. As we continue developing the platform, we'll introduce articles that discuss in more detail our solutions for certain problems we run into.

Many well respected organizations publish developer blogs, and we hope to stand among them and, as mentioned before, offer our own value to the conversation. There are a lot of new technologies that we're interested in exploring, including Docker, that we're excited to tinker with and—whether it makes it into production or not—share our journey and experiences.

We may pivot from time to time in the technologies that leverage, depending on the issues we run into and the trend of the development. If we do, we'll try to reflect on what was the catalyst for the pivot. The decisions that go into choosing a technology and those that go into abandoning one in favor of another are very different, but both are eqaully important.

Right now, we only have a single full time developer so in an effort to deliver value to our users, articles in this series may lag behind more than others.

As usual, we're always looking for feedback on these types of articles, and once we have something set up to receive that feedback we hope to be able to take suggestions from our readers as to the sorts of topics you would like to hear about in this series.
